Wow, some really surprising results have me looking pretty bad after a solid run of good picks throughout the World Cup. I do, however, still have Spain in the running, who was my pre-tourney pick to win it all. Let's have a look at how the quarter-finals shook down:



Netherlands def. Brazil 2-1 (whaaat? not sure if i underestimated NED or overestimated Brazil, maybe a bit of both, anyways the Netherlands are moving on and should beat Uruguay in the semi's, congrats to my Dutch buddy Dolf, living in Ireland, I'm sure I'll never hear the end of it!)


Uruguay def Ghana 1-1, PK's (Whoops!, Uruguay did everything in their power to lose this one but Ghana couldn't capitalize, this is a tough one for me as i had Ghana going to the Semi's and took plenty of flak for it, i was pretty smug during the penalty kick after overtime and I'm still paying for it)


Germany def. Argentina 4-0 (wow, i was not expecting this, not to say it was an upset, just surprising how easy it was for the Germans. The Argentinian defense went to sleep for most of the match and its reflected in the scoreline, costly one for Maradona)



Spain def. Paraguay 1-0 (a little closer than Spain would have liked but regardless they are through, i would pick Spain to win easy but after seeing what Germany did to Argentina, I'm a little gun-shy - still Spain were my pre-tournament pick to win the World Cup so I'm not reneging on it now)


The Semi-finals start on Tuesday with Uruguay v Netherlands then Spain take on Germany on Wednesday, can anyone say "Barn-Burner"?
