Stoke-on-Trent, England - The U-18 Highlanders Prospects got their UK tour off to a smashing start on the weekend, drawing 0-0 versus Port Vale’s Prospects in Stoke-on-Trenton, England. The close match could have ended in a win for either club as the two teams exchanged scoring chances in the second half to no avail. The Prospects then went on to defeat Notts County U16's 6-3 before finishing off the tour with a 3-1 victory over Sheffield Wednesday U16's.
“The intensity and physicality of this environment has been a great education for our young players” said Assistant Coach Dave Ravenhill.
The staff and players from English side Port Vale were impressed by the strong play of the Highlanders Prospects and gained a respect for their Canadian counterparts throughout the day.
“ Everyone at Port Vale have been fantastic hosts, going beyond what we expected by providing training from their coaches, allowing the boys to watch their first team training session and even inviting the Highlanders staff and players to a post-match lunch” added Ravenhill.
The Luncheon, arranged by the Port Vale side gave the coaches and players of both clubs a chance to ingratiate themselves with each other and share their unique prospective on the global game from either side of the spectrum.
The Prospects then shuffled off to Sheffield on Monday where they trained for their upcoming match versus Notts County, collecting a 6-3 win on the strength of Sam Prettes Hat Trick performance. Jake Simpson also added two and Josh Heard collected the other.
On Thursday, the lads laced up versus Sheffield Wedenesday's U16 Club (Home to current Highlanders first teamer Max Wragg), and came away with a hard fought 3-1 win. Goalscorers in the final match were Connor Boag, Jake Simpson and Max Legg.
