Women Wrap up Home Schedule with 4-0 Win
Posted on: Wednesday, July 7, 2010
The Victoria Highlanders Women's side got two early goals from Mariel Solsberg and ran away with a 4-0 win despite the baking temperature at Bear Mountain Stadium on Saturday, increasing their strangle-hold on second place in the PCSL's Women's Premier Division.
The Lady 'Landers go the ball rolling early, so to speak, when Mariel Solsberg finished off a feed from Molly Stone, giving the Highlanders a 1-0 lead in the 13th minute. The 16th minute saw Nicole Bates-Eamer bend a perfect cross in to the penalty spot but Liz Hansen's first touch sent the ball sailing over the crossbar. In the 19th minute, however, Solsberg would net her second of the match as she easily tucked a goal line cross from Jackie Snell into the back of goal. Liz Hansen's luck would not prevail in her quest to even her single season goal scoring record as she had two more chances at goal with volleys that narrowly missed the left and right posts respectively and would finish the day with no goals to her credit.
Second half substitute Mallory Hackett would fare better, scoring in 82nd minute off a feed from Stephanie Davidson. Kelley Forbes would add the dagger to Chilliwacks heart as she found the back of goal in the 89th minute to give the Highlanders a 4-0 win and preserve the clean sheet for goalkeeper Tanya Jones.
NOTE: The Victoria Highlanders Reserve men were also in action on Saturday as they were downed 1-0 by Victoria United at Royal Athletic Park on Justin Manz' 90th minute strike.
